How to apply for NAAC Accreditation?

The process of applying for NAAC accreditation has been significantly reformed under the new Binary Accreditation framework introduced in 2025. Here is an updated overview of how to apply for NAAC accreditation under the current system.

Eligibility Check

Before beginning the application process, confirm your institution meets the eligibility criteria:

  • The institution must have been operational for at least 4 years or have one graduating batch of students
  • Must be recognised by the relevant regulatory body — UGC, AICTE, or equivalent
  • Must be capable of maintaining digital records aligned with NAAC’s Data Capture Formats 2025 (DCF 2025)
Step 1: Preparation Phase
  • Review the latest guidelines and framework documents on the official NAAC website
  • Constitute a dedicated Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) — this remains a mandatory prerequisite for accreditation
  • Begin digitising institutional data across all key domains — curriculum plans, faculty records, student data, research output, financial statements, and governance metrics
  • Ensure data consistency across national platforms such as AISHE, UDISE+, and NIRF — the new system auto-validates submissions against these databases, and any mismatch can result in rejection
Step 2: Self-Study Report (SSR) Preparation
  • The IQAC leads the preparation of the Self-Study Report (SSR) — now structured around the 10 Attributes under the Input–Process–Outcome model
  • Follow NAAC’s DCF 2025 format strictly — the SSR is fully digital and integrated with NAAC’s verification infrastructure
  • Every quantitative metric must be supported by verifiable documentary evidence — audited financials, indexed publication links, signed MoUs, geo-tagged photographs, etc.
  • Metrics are assessed under three categories: Good, Concern, or Weak — replacing the old CGPA scoring system
Step 3: Online Application & Institutional Profile
  • Register on the NAAC Accreditation Portal (2025 edition) at naac.gov.in
  • Complete the Institutional Information for Quality Assessment (IIQA) — the eligibility filing that initiates the process
  • Fill in the Institutional Profile with accurate details — programme offerings, faculty strength, infrastructure, and compliance documents
Step 4: Submission of SSR and Data
  • Upload the SSR and all supporting evidence via the NAAC portal as per DCF 2025 guidelines
  • The system cross-verifies submitted data against the One Nation One Data Platform — ensuring authenticity and integrity
  • Ensure all data is complete and consistent before final submission; discrepancies attract penalties under the new framework
Step 5: Payment of Fees
  • Pay accreditation fees as per the current NAAC fee structure
  • Fee structures are reduced under the new framework due to the elimination of physical peer visits for colleges
Step 6: AI-Based Assessment
  • Under the Binary Accreditation framework, traditional physical peer team visits have been eliminated for colleges
  • Assessment is conducted through AI-powered evaluation — benchmarking institutional data against peer groups and national averages — along with stakeholder validation and document verification
  • Universities undergo a hybrid assessment (online + physical)
Step 7: Outcome
  • Institutions are classified as either Accredited or Not Accredited — replacing the old A++, A+, A, B grading system
  • Accreditation is valid for 3 years, with an Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) required each year
  • Institutions that are not accredited may reapply after 6 months
  • Accredited institutions can subsequently pursue Maturity-Based Graded Levels (MBGL) — a five-level framework from national to global excellence
Step 8: Publication of Results
  • NAAC publishes accreditation outcomes on its official website
