Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has built 10,047 alumni profiles on the portal using Vaave Magic, an AI-powered alumni database-building tool, in 3 months. These profiles come packed with rich, actionable insights that help VIT leverage its alumni more effectively. Beyond just building profiles, Vaave Magic has also identified top alumni like CXOs, HR leaders, and professionals working in Fortune 500 companies, opening doors for strategic alumni engagement.
Background & Challenges
The Vellore Institute of Technology Alumni Association (VITAA) has a large, diverse alumni community spread across industries. To leverage this network effectively, the association wanted to build an updated alumni database. While many alumni were registered on the existing alumni portal, the information wasn’t of much use. Crucial details like current workplace, designation, and skills were either outdated or missing from most profiles.
VITAA was looking for a solution that could address their biggest pain points: an updated alumni database and actionable insights for alumni engagement. But they didn’t have the resources or expertise to solve it on their own.
Solution: An Updated Alumni Database for VITAA
When VITAA shared their challenge of not maintaining an updated alumni database, we suggested building alumni profiles through Vaave Magic as a Service. As part of this, our team identified alumni via LinkedIn, collected publicly available LinkedIn URLs, and built complete alumni profiles enriched with actionable insights.
These profiles were instantly created using Vaave Magic, an ingenious mix of AI algorithms and our homegrown alumni database-building software. In the first phase alone, we built 10,047 alumni profiles, with many more to be added in the project's next phases.
Value Created Through Vaave Magic
Vaave Magic generates detailed alumni insights powered by AI. These insights shed light on alumni’s various aspects, helping VIT develop dedicated alumni engagement strategies.
Cumulative Alumni Insights
Vaave Magic instantly identified top-tier alumni such as CXOs, HRs, entrepreneurs, alumni working in Fortune 500 companies, and those with the highest degrees and doctorates.

VIT can leverage these top alumni to improve placements & internships, mentoring, enhance institutional branding, increase fundraising and even for accreditations like NAAC and NIRF.
Deep Alumni Insights

Vaave Magic doesn’t just give you names and titles; it categorizes alumni by domain, experience level, and designation. It also tracks post-graduation details and allows search through multiple filters so that VIT can segment and engage the right alumni for the right initiatives.
These insights are actionable; they give VIT clarity on the strength of their alumni network and enable focused engagement.

Interesting alumni-demographic insights of VITAA derived from the profiles built:
- 98 of its alumni have been to Indian School of Business for post graduation.
- More than 50% of alumni have a Masters degree.
Here’s how VIT can leverage the top alumni for institutional development:
- VIT has 631 alumni CXOs. Even if each CXO offers 3 placement opportunities to students, the university will have 1893 confirmed placements.
- The university has 713 alumni entrepreneurs. If each of these alumni offers at least 3 internship opportunities, VIT will have 2139 students gaining practical exposure before stepping into full-time roles.
- With 6025 (60%) alumni working in Fortune 500 companies, VIT can leverage them for various mentoring sessions like upskilling, resume building, mock interviews and for industrial projects.
Conclusion
With a clean, insight-rich alumni database in place, VITAA now has what most institutions struggle to build, a clear picture of their alumni network, and the means to engage them strategically. From placements and internships to mentoring and institutional branding, the possibilities are wide open. As more profiles are built and insights deepen, VIT is set to turn alumni into one of its strongest assets, not just for engagement, but for long-term development.
