The NIRF rankings were introduced in <strong>2015<\/strong> by the <strong>Ministry of Education (MoE)<\/strong> \u2014 formerly known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) \u2014 to assess Indian universities and colleges based on various parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Evaluation Criteria:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NIRF rankings evaluate institutions across several categories, including:<br>1. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR):<\/span> <\/strong>This category considers factors such as Student-Faculty Ratio, Faculty Qualifications, and the availability of Infrastructure and Resources for Teaching and Learning.<br><br>2. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Research and Professional Practice (RP):<\/span><\/strong> It assesses Research Output, Publications, Patents, and Collaborations with Industry and other Organizations.<br><br>3. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Graduation Outcomes (GO):<\/span><\/strong> This category looks at metrics like Placement and Employability of Graduates, the Percentage of Students who complete their programs on time, and their overall performance in Examinations.<br><br>4. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Outreach and Inclusivity (OI):<\/span> <\/strong> NIRF evaluates an institution&#8217;s efforts to promote Diversity and Inclusivity, including measures to support Socially and Economically disadvantaged students and communities.<br><br>5. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Peer Perception:<\/span><\/strong> This component takes into account the Perception of an Institution among Academic peers, Employers, and the General Public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rankings are published annually and cover <strong>17 categories<\/strong> \u2014 including Overall, University, Engineering, Management, Medical, Law, and the newly introduced <strong>Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)<\/strong> category added in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each institution is ranked based on its performance across these parameters. In its <strong>10th edition (2025), 7,692 institutions<\/strong> participated \u2014 up from 2,426 at launch \u2014 reflecting how central NIRF has become to India&#8217;s higher education landscape.
